Ivy Journal of Ethics - A Call for Submissions

I am writing on behalf of the Ivy Journal of Ethics, a journal seeking undergraduate submissions for its Spring 2011 volume. The Ivy Journal of Ethics is the undergraduate Bioethics Journal published at Cornell University and has a circulation throughout the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. In this past issue, we have received submissions from colleges and universities across the world such as University of Oxford, University of Pennsylvania, and Stanford University. We would greatly appreciate it if you could forward the message below to the Pre-Professional Advising email list and to any other groups whose members you feel might be interested in contributing to the Journal. In addition, if you think that any of your colleagues or student organizations at Columbia University would be interested in sending this message to their students please do not hesitate to forward this message.

A Call for Submissions!

The Ivy Journal of Ethics is an annual journal of applied bioethics published by the Bioethics Society of Cornell. Research and discussion based articles are published primarily from undergraduate students at schools throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. In the past, we have also published submissions from notable faculty members, such as Nobel Laureate Roald Hoffmann. It has been well received by noted Bioethicists such as Dr. Atul Gawande of Brigham and Womens Hospital/ Harvard Medical School. For past editions of the Ivy Journal of Ethics, please visit our website: www.rso.cornell.edu/bsc.

We are currently accepting submissions for the Spring 2011 edition of the Journal. Past volumes have contained an array of issues, from xenotransplantation, stem cell research, abortion, and in vitro fertilization to matters concerning doping in athletics and bioterrorism. In our most recent issues, we have focused on maternal and fetal rights, combating HIV/AIDS in developing nations, and corruption and deforestation. For the Spring 2011 edition, we are particularly interested in submissions centered around current issues in healthcare policy, but we would be delighted to receive submissions on any other topics related to bioethics for inclusion in our next journal.

Submissions should be emailed
to ethics@cornell.edu by February 1, 2011. Please do not submit manuscripts that have been or will be up for publication in any other journal.

Please feel free to contact me at wpi3@cornell.edu with any questions.

Sincerely,

William Imperiale

summer opportunity: Weill Cornell Travelers Summer Research Fellowship

Another summer program recommendation from one of your classmates!  – Thanks Debashree.

Your email about another student's summer research experience prompted me to send you information about the program I did this past summer at Weill Cornell. The Travelers Summer Research Fellowship was by far one of the most illuminating experiences I've had as a college student, and particularly as a pre-medical student. It gave me a lot of insight into the field of medicine through the lens of public health and clinical research. The faculty, staff, and students who participate in the program are phenomenal, and went out of their way to make sure we had all our questions answered and curiosities satisfied. I highly recommend this program to all junior pre-medical students.

The website was just recently updated for the 2011 application: http://www.med.cornell.edu/education/programs/tra_sum_res.html

Application information can be found at:

I hope this is helpful! Have a great holiday season, and stay warm!
