Clinical Research Assistant Position:  The Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York (http://www.msrcny.org) has an immediate opening for a Clinical Research Assistant.  Ideal candidates are recent graduates with a Bachelor’s degree seeking experience in the medical field before attending graduate school or medical school.  A minimum commitment of 2 years is preferred.  The position involves assisting with clinical research studies, patient interaction, drafting research protocols, etc.  Candidates should have good writing skills, excellent organization skills, and be knowledgeable in data processing and computer usage.  Good human relations skills are required for interaction with patients.  The ability to interact and work well with others is also essential. Clinical Research Coordinator, Hospital for Special Surgery, NYC

He/she will work as a team member on a multi-center clinical NIH-sponsored research study:

·          Prepares and submits documents and reports for continued review by IRB, yearly NIH progress reports and semiannual Monitoring Board meetings.

·          Maintains enrollment data and prepares periodic study enrollment reports.

·          Works with study sites to resolve day-to-day problems. Ensures that sites have supplies required for carrying out the study protocol.

·          Conducts monitoring visits to study site locations. Ensures adherence to protocol. Works to resolve questions/problems at the different sites.

·          Screens and enrolls patients into study. Discusses and obtains informed consent with patients. Checks eligibility or ineligibility criteria with the patients’ medical record. Follows patient throughout the study. Extracts data from hospital records, outpatient charts and private physician office records in order to complete case report forms required by the protocols.

·          Enters study related data into web-based data entry system. Monitors quality and timeliness of data entry at study sites.

·          Ensures that schedules, follow up and completion of research protocol progresses as planned.

·          Works with Principal Investigator, Study Statistician and other Coordinators to obtain data from database and perform basic statistical analysis.

·          Together with the Sample Manager, oversees and coordinates specimen collection, shipping from study sites to principal site and storage as well as distribution to laboratory sites.

·          Organizes investigator meetings and conference calls.

·          Performs other job-related duties as required.

 

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Major in a science or public health related area preferred as well as interest in learning the science behind the study protocol; strong computer skills in spreadsheets and databases required. Previous experience with data management and/or analysis and knowledge of basic statistical methods preferred; excellent organization and communication skills.

Our project     

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Bronx-Lebanon a four-year grant to establish an innovative demonstration model.  We are currently in year 3 of this grant.

We have designed a unique system to promote the enhancement of an existing health information system linking New York City providers serving people living with HIV/AIDS. 

The project uses management information services in an Electronic Health Record (EHR) setting to coordinate care, improve communication, and develop novel, proactive workflows to deliver a comprehensive range of patient services. Our intent is to demonstrate that enhanced technology can lead to improved health outcomes for people living with HIV/AIDS.

 

Responsibilities will include daily interaction with patients & medical staff in the Infectious Diseases clinic and Dept of Internal medicine and assist coordinating ongoing patient care, and administrative tasks for the grant. He/she will be required to use the EHR; generate pre-configured reports from it, and articulate them to best fit the clinical workflow. He/she will report to the SPNS Project Manager who will, in turn, report to, the Principal Investigator of the project.

 

Minimum Qualifications           

Requirements include a minimum of Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) and fluency in English and Spanish. The incumbent must be highly organized, motivated and outcomes oriented, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Requires excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to set priorities among conflicting demands, and demonstrate good judgment and discretion in handling confidential matters. He/she should be able to demonstrate basic computer skills in Microsoft office and ability to learn the hospitals EHR.

 

Preferred Qualifications         

·         Fluency in French

·         Experience of working in a hospital / clinical setting
